Nest Thermostats Temperature Hold Feature Enhances Home Comfort

Nest Thermostats Temperature Hold Feature Enhances Home Comfort

2026-01-25

Are you tired of your thermostat automatically adjusting temperatures against your preferences? The Nest Thermostat's innovative "Temperature Hold" feature puts you back in control, allowing you to maintain your ideal climate exactly when you need it.

Why Temperature Hold Matters

The Temperature Hold function lets you lock your Nest Thermostat at a specific temperature for a set duration. During this period, the device ignores all preset schedules and automatic adjustments, ensuring your environment remains precisely as you desire.

Consider these common scenarios where Temperature Hold proves invaluable:

  • Family gatherings: Maintain consistent comfort for guests of all ages without worrying about automatic energy-saving adjustments.
  • Vacation periods: Set eco-friendly temperatures that stay locked while you're away, optimizing energy savings.
  • Important meetings: Ensure your home office maintains perfect conditions for focus and productivity.
  • Infant care: Create stable sleeping environments for babies by preventing temperature fluctuations.
  • Pet comfort: Maintain ideal conditions for your pets' wellbeing when you're not home.

How to Use Temperature Hold

Via Google Home App

1. Open the Google Home app and select your Nest Thermostat
2. Ensure the thermostat is in Heat, Cool, or Heat/Cool mode
3. Tap "Hold Temperature"
4. Select your desired temperature and duration
5. Click "Start" to activate

Directly on Your Thermostat

For Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen):
- Select "Hold" or "Eco" from the menu
- Choose duration and confirm

For Nest Thermostat:
- Select "Hold" from menu view
- Choose between "Current Temp" or "Eco"
- Set duration and confirm

Important Notes

This feature is only available on Nest Thermostat and Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) models. Earlier versions including Nest Thermostat E and 3rd generation Learning Thermostats do not support Temperature Hold functionality.

When making adjustments, you must first end any current temperature hold before initiating a new one. For eco presets, you can select unlimited duration, while other presets allow holds up to 24 hours.
